This is a quaint town flanked by the Arabian Sea in the west and has a vast network of lakes, lagoons and freshwater rivers criss-crossing it. The Banasura Sagar dam is the largest earthen dam in India which impounds the waters of the Karamanathodu- a tributary of the Kabini river. Soochipara Falls also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls is a three-tiered waterfall in Vellarimala, Wayanad, surrounded by Deciduous, Evergreen and Montane forests. Cascading down in three stages from a height of about 300 meters, Meenmutty, which takes a 2 km trek to reach, is the biggest waterfall in Wayanad both in terms of volume and height.
